A Golf Lesson for the Soul
Dear Friends,
Many of the top golfers have testified that Ben Hogan had the greatest and the most fluid golf swing of all time. Although Ben was a relatively small man of 145 pounds, he could pound the ball farther then most because he had grooved his swing to perfection. If you want to catch a glimpse into his power and grace, check out the following short video on You Tube which has been seen and analyzed by almost 2,000,000 people:

Now, I at times have thought how wonderful it would be if somehow that beautiful swing of Ben Hogan could enter into my body and I could swing like he did just for a moment. That is to say, wouldn't it be the most wonderful golf lesson in the world, that instead of just seeing how Hogan swung, I would actually feel everything he did? I would actually sense how he held the club, how he used his arms, his legs and shoulders. His muscles, his nerves, his brain would take over my muscles, my nerves and my brain and I for once would feel from the inside the perfect golf swing. I know that I would never forget the experience and it would make me a much better golfer.
Although I cannot experience Ben Hogan's swing from inside of myself, the gospel clearly teaches that Jesus wants to truly become an integral part of my life. Jesus promised that if we open up the door of our hearts He will abide IN us. By faith we can actually experience His thoughts, His feelings, His life. Through the miraculous working of the Holy Spirit we can not only know about Jesus but actually experience His power and grace in our lives.
The Christian life is much more than information that comes from outside of ourselves and molds only our external behavior. It is Jesus entering the heart and transforming our horrible swing into one which reflects His power and grace. Wow, now that is really an unbelievable miracle . . . a golf lesson for the soul.
I thanked him, I thanked God and I checked in, flew home and made it in time to take a short nap before breakfast. Yes, I do believe that angels watch over us by night and by day and sometimes inspire us with song as we travel the pilgrim way along the paths of life.
