"Two Plus Nine Plus Three Minus One Equals Trouble"
Dear Friends,
Just this
last Wednesday I got a call that a women who was seven months pregnant
with twins just had broken her water and needed a ride to a hospital.
Having no scheduled meetings, I jumped in my van, drove to the house of
the expectant mother and along with some friends, began searching for
a hospital to deliver the babies. (After all, I have a twin sister and
could easily identify with the mother).
After driving to three hospitals the picture was clear.
Nobody wanted to take a poor mother who needed special care and probably
did not have the money to pay the big bill after the babies were born
and placed in special care for a number of weeks.
We were able to hire an ambulance to take her down
to Manila to the government hospital. But when they arrived two hours
later they found out there were no beds available because of the recent
flooding there. After checking out two more hospitals in Manila, they
came back and tried to get into two more emergency rooms but to no avail.
Finally, nine hours and nine hospitals later, they finally found a place
to take the mother and the babies were born a few hours later.
But that my friends is just the start of the story. It turns out that the husband of
the girl is probably the father of the babies but he rarely sees her anymore. Another guy,
who has more money than the husband, believes the babies are his and is giving the money for the births.
When the mother returns home on Friday, a third guy is there to see her.
I just learned today that the twin boy died because of his premature status. He would have easily survived in the United States but infant respirators and rare here and expensive. So very sad.
Twins, plus nine hospitals plus three guys minus one baby boy equals trouble, big trouble. I plan to visit the mother today and minister to her heart and soul during this critical hour of need.
That’s what Jesus did when He walked this planet and that is what we are called to do. We daily meet people whose lives are full of trouble. Just do the math, say a prayer and in your own way, go forth as a channel of healing to others.
