Welcome

Welcome to the official website of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Singapore—a Christian faith community preparing people for the return of Jesus Christ.

The Adventists are visibly committed to healthful living, to protecting life, to caring for the earth, and to building friendships with their neighbors. Adventists are a purposeful group of people, busy following a lifelong mission. That mission comes from the words of Jesus Christ Himself. "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you" (Matthew 28:19, 20 NIV).

As C.S. Lewis quipped, "It may be hard for an egg to turn into a bird: it would be a jolly sight harder for it to learn to fly while remaining an egg." It was indeed time for the Singapore Adventist Mission (SAM) to emerge from an egg and soar as an eagle. As it strived in advancing the three angels' message in Singapore, SAM had to assume the tedious task of transforming itself into a Conference. Administrative officers of SAM worked long and hard on the process for two years and on 9 July 2011 it officially became the Seventh-day Adventist Conference (Singapore).

Delegates representing all churches and companies in Singapore, the South-east Asia Union Mission and the Southern Asia-Pacific Division gathered at the Seventh-day Adventist Community Church for the inaugural conference session of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Singapore on 8 and9 July.

The first day saw the presentation of reports from the incumbent officers to the session. Following this was the approval of the new constitution by the delegates. The first day ended with the nomination and approval of the organizing committee. This committee then selected the members of the nominating committee.

The second day started with the nominating committee getting to work on nominating the new Conference administrative officers and departmental leaders who will serve for the next five years. The delegates also approved the setup of a new committee known as the Constitution and By-Laws Committee. This committee is to carry out the task of studying refining the new constitution. The delegates then separated into different action groups (Reaching Up, Reaching Out, Reaching Across and Financial Stability) to discuss plans and strategies for the new conference.

Between such discussions the nominating committee would announce their recommendations. The first such announcement was that of Pastor Johnny Kan as the new president of the Singapore Conference. A unanimous vote by the delegates accepted and approved the nomination. Pastor Kan was then invited to join the nominating committee in an advisory role as it continued its work.

After hours of deliberation, the nominating committee finally came out of their meeting and presented the names for the other officers and departmental leaders. Each name was read and voted individually. Members of the new Executive Committee was also selected and approved as the session drew to a close.

The conference welcomes its three new officers – President: Pastor Johnny Kan, Executive Secretary: Mr. Eric Teo and Treasurer: Mr. Roger Wong. For the time being Mr. Roger Wong will not be available to assume his duties. Mr. Jimmy Chow will be acting treasurer.
